For some people, speaking is something that comes to them naturally, however, for others it can be the most frightening thing in the world.
Learning the techniques
If you are someone who gets panic attacks before a Telephone Recorder or if you feel as if you may have a breakdown before you have to give a speech then it will be very beneficial to learn speaking techniques as the techniques can help you manage your fears. In order to learn these techniques, you first need to confront your fear of speaking and although there are many different methods to confront your fears one of the most effective methods in doing so is a technique called systemic desensitization. This technique includes a step by step process which allows you to build a hierarchy of fears starting with the thing that scares you the least. Once you learn the techniques, you will be encouraged to use the technique at each stage of the hierarchy until you reach the top of the hierarchy.
Another effective way of overcoming your fears is to push yourself into the deep end. For example, if you have a speech impediment, then instead of avoiding working for call center solution companies you should push yourself to work at a communication center where you will be forced to frequently talk to customers on the phone. It is important to understand that avoiding your fears is not going to get you anywhere; however, confronting your fears will enable you to go very far in life. Once you push yourself into doing something that scares you, the more you do it, the less frightening the task will become.
When you are faced with a difficult situation, you should keep trying different methods until you find one that works for you. For example, when you are talking on the phone to a customer, if you find that you stammer more when you follow a script, then the next time you talk to a customer you should allow the words to come to you naturally instead of following a script as this might cause you to stammer less. Especially when you have a speech impediment, it is important that you do not rush your words. Even if you feel that the person on the other end of the telephone line is becoming impatient with you, you should still not rush your words as this could cause you to stammer less. If a customer yells at you or laughs at you when you are trying to speak, although it may be difficult you should try your best to not let their unkind attitude get to you.
